Refreshing Prosciutto and Melon Antipasti
INGREDIENTS
1 ripe cantaloupe melon
8 to 10 slices of prosciutto, cut in half lengthwise
A few leaves of fresh basil
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
PREPARATION
Melon Preparation: Cut the cantaloupe melon in half, remove the seeds, and use a melon baller to form melon balls. Alternatively, you can dice the melon if you prefer a different presentation.
Wrapping the Melon: Wrap each melon ball or piece with half a slice of prosciutto. You can secure them with wooden picks if needed.
Assembly: Arrange the prosciutto-wrapped melon balls or pieces on a serving platter. Place a few fresh basil leaves on top.
Seasoning: Sprinkle some freshly ground black pepper over the top of the melon balls and prosciutto. If desired, lightly drizzle with balsamic vinegar and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to add an extra layer of flavor.
Service: Serve immediately as an appetizer or starter. This combination of salty prosciutto and sweet melon is a classic and delicious flavor pairing.
